CRATER 2027

Meet the forthcoming CRATER Map Studio: mobile field mapping, project planning, and a clearer next step before committing to a site visit.

CRATER Land Use 2027

Your property. Your phone. A clearer next step.

Development is changing, and CRATER is building what comes next. CRATER Map Studio is our forthcoming mobile and desktop mapping program, built around more than 20 years of experience in land use planning, critical areas, field biology, and working with contractors to find practical solutions.

Maps, layers, and regulatory research in one place. We are developing a workspace that brings together available wetland mapping resources such as Wetlands Mapper, stream and water-type maps, parcels, flood hazards, shoreline information, and other useful reference layers. Add relevant layers to your project and compare them with your drawings, measurements, and field observations. Related code references, buffer and setback guidance, and agency planning resources help connect what appears on the map with the questions a project needs to address. Coverage varies by location; official sources and unverified local requirements will be identified for review.

Use your phone in the field to create points, lines, and polygons, take photos, and record what you see. Upload plans, draw development ideas, and explore measurements and buffers in the same workspace. Save your project, share it with CRATER, and give us a call. Reviewing your information together before a site visit can help identify constraints, compare options, and decide what is worth doing next before you spend more.

CRATER is putting practical experience and new technology to work to reduce avoidable costs and shorten turnaround times for landowners, contractors, and environmental professionals. Earlier research and better information can mean fewer surprises and a clearer path forward. For straightforward questions, preliminary guidance may be possible within days when sufficient information is available. Timing depends on the project scope and site conditions; required field investigations and agency review still apply.

The current working draft includes editable layers, dimensioned drawing tools, buffers, project backups, GIS and CAD exchange exports, and branded PDF site-plan layouts. Field collection, photo sharing, regulatory coverage, and connected project-review workflows continue to be developed and tested. Our goal is to make useful mapping and planning tools accessible without the expense of traditional GIS software.

Nationwide commercial availability and a Google Play release are planned for 2027. Release timing, pricing, and supported coverage will be announced as they are confirmed. Need a map today? CRATER provides report mapping and stand-alone site plans to support jurisdiction review.

Customer-created maps are unsigned working drafts. Field-verified maps issued by CRATER’s office will be signed. Preliminary review helps identify useful next steps; it does not replace required field verification or agency approval.
